Schools & Colleges
New Bern has seven elementary schools, three middle schools and one high school. These public schools are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. More information can be found at Craven County Schools Online.
In addition, numerous private schools serve students in the area and include St. Paul Education Center - Prekindergarten - 8; Ruths Chapel Christian School - Prekindergarten -12; The Epiphany School - Grades 5-12; Annunciation Catholic School - Prekindergarten -8; and Arendell Parrott Academy in Kinston - Grades K - 12.
New Bern boasts two institutions of higher education.
Craven Community College has a broad outreach in the community, offering basic education programs, college transfer programs, technical degrees, and continuing education. The college works closely with the business community to provide education and training for employees; for example, in fields such as nursing and aeronautical technology.
Mount Olive College offers accelerated degree completion programs in management and organizational development, criminal justice administration, a modular religion major, and a Heritage Program (liberal arts core courses for beginning college students).
Pamlico County Community College located in Grantsboro, NC, PCCC offer a wide variety of Curriculum programs and Continuing Education classes.
In addition, East Carolina University is one hour from New Bern in Greenville, NC. ECU is accredited by the Commission of Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees.
The main campus is about 350 acres and has more than 4.6 million square feet of academic, research, and residential space in 158 buildings.
